This week has seen the MLR trade wire explode, and Old Glory has been part of the fun. While the team has yet to announce anything officially, according to the trade wire OGDC have traded their first round pick in next year's draft to the San Diego Legion in exchange for the rights to Koi Koi Nelligan, the #34 overall pick in this year's draft. While technically this trade doesn't guarantee that he will play for Old Glory, given the circumstances it's highly unlikely that he won't be officially signed in the near future.

As a DC native, this will be a homecoming for Nelligan. He picked up rugby while attending West Point, starting on the developmental side and working his way up to the first team by his senior year. He then led the team in tries scored with 16, including a hat trick against Penn State, breaking the school's record for most tries in a single season. The team won a national title, with Nelligan being named the MVP in both their semifinal and finals matches. He has also been recognized by the national team, joining a camp in Houston and playing with the U23 team in the Netherlands.

Nelligan mostly played at flanker in college, but entered the draft listed as a hooker. That makes it difficult to project where he might end up on the team. He could play at hooker, joining Jack Manzo as a developing option behind Facundo Gattas and Nic Souchon. Given his limited experience in the front row, however, it may take him some time to reach the level required of hookers in the MLR. Alternatively, he might rejoin his Army teammate Collin Grosse at flanker, a position where he could have more opportunity to make an immediate impact.
