In attempt to bring some more experience into the starting lineup, Old Glory has signed Uruguayan international Facundo Gattas. The 27-year-old is a seasoned player, with 34 international caps over the past eight years for Uruguay and caps in the 2019 Rugby World Cup. He even scored a try in Uruguay's spectacular victory over the United States in RWC Qualifying last year. He was also a mainstay in the top Argentinian club league for several years before signing with SLAR club Peñarol in 2021. He played in 11 of the team's 12 matches that year, scoring 6 tries.

While it has yet to be announced whether Gattas is immediately available for selection, he should slot in as the starting hooker when he is available. Old Glory has had some good play from their hooker duo of Mo Katz and Rob Irimescu, but neither one has been consistent enough to solidify them in the starting spot. Both are probably better suited to backup roles behind an experienced player like Gattas.

Hopefully, Gattas can provide a boost for the struggling team. With Old Glory in a six-match losing spiral, any change has to be viewed as a good thing, since the status quo is unacceptable. A good signing like this should pull them closer to that elusive first victory.
