Old Glory has announced the re-signing of Kyle Stewart, the first tighthead prop to be confirmed on next year's roster. The young New Zealander is only 25, but already had four year's of experience in the NPC and a season in Italy's Super 10 competition when he signed up for Old Glory last year. He returned to Taranaki in the NPC this offseason as well.

Stewart was a key signing for the 2022 season, helping to replace the OGDC's very successful starting front row from 2021 after they all signed with clubs in Europe. He was an instant mainstay of the squad, playing in all 16 matches and starting in 14 of them for a total of 895 minutes, the most of any front rower. He primarily played on the tighthead side, but also started 3 matches at loosehead when Jack Iscaro was injured in the middle of the season. With the signing of Quentin Newcomer, however, Stewart won't have to flip between positions in 2023.

With Stewart officially back on the books for next season, most of last year's starters have re-signed. We can project pretty confidently that the starting front row will remain unchanged, with Stewart on the tighthead side, Iscaro on the loosehead side, and Facundo Gattas in the middle. Who is behind them on the bench remains a uncertain, though, as many of the other props from last year have yet to be confirmed.

As one of the better parts of last year's scrum, its great to see Stewart come back. The OGDC scrum has never had this sort of consistency year-to-year, making this a good chance to build on one of the better parts of the team last year.
